Before spending a significant amount on management quota fees, it’s natural to want to understand the institution behind the degree. PES University history that gives parents genuine reason for confidence — but it’s worth knowing the story rather than taking claims at face value. The People’s Education Society was founded in 1973, starting, remarkably, in a rented gymnasium in Bangalore with around 40 students.
What began as a modest educational initiative grew steadily over the following decades.
In 1988, PES established PESIT — PES Institute of Technology — which became Bangalore’s first self-financed engineering college affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).
For over two decades, PESIT built a reputation as one of Karnataka’s better private engineering colleges. Alumni from the PESIT era now hold significant positions in the Indian tech industry and globally, which has contributed to the institution’s credibility in placement circles.
In 2013, the transformation to PES University marked a new chapter.
With university status came greater autonomy — the ability to set its own curriculum, award its own degrees, and expand into new disciplines. Today, PES manages over 45 educational programs across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, with more than 18,000 students currently enrolled. The program range extends well beyond engineering into management, law, design, medicine, psychology, architecture, and more.
In national rankings, PES University sits in the 101-150 band in NIRF Engineering rankings (2025).
This isn’t the top tier, but it’s a creditable position for a private PES University history university that hasn’t had decades of government support. In Karnataka-specific rankings, PESU has earned the top position among newer private universities.
The brand carries genuine weight in Bangalore’s hiring circles. Recruiters who visit campus repeatedly are a reliable signal of institutional trust. PESU has built that trust over 50+ years, and the management quota fees reflect — in part — access to that reputation.
